Last night YT picked me up in his cool Citroen. YT, Michael Lim and myself headed over to the Little India part of Singapore to dine at the Apolo Banana Leaf Curry restaurant. It was delicious, especially the big bowl of fish head curry! Yum. Afterwards we walked through Little India was was lit up beautifully for the Festival of Lights, Deepavali.

We took a tour of the Mustafa Place market. It’s an awesome Indian deparment store that has “everything you don’t want to buy as well as everying you do want to buy.” – YT. It’s sort of like Don Quijote on steroids minus the anime. On the way back to the car we stopped for some tea and Michael ordered a delicious frosty chocolate beverage alled a “Milo” (spelling?) for me. I think jetlag finally caught up with me a little bit as I totally neglected to take any pictures but it was a really fun time.

YT is doing some really interesting research on reconstructing automobile collisions from the final crash data. The implications for safety and liability are huge. One of the big problems is that an automobile’s rigid body becomes rather soft and deformable during the impact so standard RBD simulation models don’t yield accurate results for the energy transfer. There are also a lot of variables from driver reaction time to the friction coefficients of the tires on the road, which is influenced by road conditions, tire conditions and temperature. It’s a very big problem with lots of little problems underneath.

YT is also working on a sketch based 3D design system so that a user can draw an image in 2D with perspective lines and the computer will recognize this as 3D geometry to create the model.

I wish YT all the best in his endevours and look forward to seeing his results.
