Day 4 – Tulang at Newton Circus Hawker Center

Ever since I saw Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” episode on Singapore I’ve been wanting to try tulang. It’s sort of a local halal version of osso bucco featuring delicious marrow sucked out of stewed bones with a straw.

Singapore has several famous food courts known as Hawker Courts or Hawker Centers. Today, Cecila and Doreen from Koelnmesse took me to Newton Circus Hawker Court for lunch.

Doreen is an intern from Austria and this was her first time at a hawker court as well. She was a little nervous about trying some of the food but Cecilia and I convinced her to try all the dishes.

We had tulang, prawns, white clams and chili crab with buns washed down with sugar cane juice and Tiger beer.

This is the aftermath…

  1. Singapore chili crab may be just about the best tasting food in the world.
