Whisky Pairing Dinner
A group of friends got together for a whisky pairing tasting menu this evening. Each guest brought a dish to share and a bottle to pair with their entree. We started with a bit of Finlaggan just to wet our whistles before diving into the tasting menu. Click on any of the pictures to enlarge.
The sherry and vanilla notes in The Glenrothes went well with subtle flavors of the blini and saltiness of the caviar.
The sweet yet slightly smokey Highland park paired nicely with the bold cheese flavor of the soup.
Japanese whisky with Japanese food! The citrus notes of the Hibiki matched well with the spiciness of the tuna roll.

Cornish Game Hen, Glazed Baby Carrots with Crispy Basil Leaves paired with a choice of Aberlour 16yr or Glenfiddich 21yr Gran Reserva (no picture of the whisky was taken)
Unfortunately we missed the picture of the Aberlour and Glenfiddich. Suffice it to say that either of these fine and rich whiskys was a nice match for the game hen, basil and carrots.
The woody flavor of this Balvenie was up to the challenge of the spicy Portuguese seafood stew.
Bam! Steak and whisky has met it’s match. Nothing like a good peaty Islay to go with a New York Steak. Ardbeg’s Airigh Nam Beist delivers in spades.

Ginger & Pumpkin Butter Bread Pudding with Chocolate Drizzle paired with a choice of Michter's Single Barrel bourbon or rye
This rye and bourbon pairing with the flavors of the desert was simply sublime.
Somewhere along the line there was a cheese plate. After dinner we retired to the deck outside to sample some fine cigars from the humidor and continue our whisky sampling.
