Sony PS3 Epic Fail Fimware Upgrade 3.00
I got my copy of The Beatles Rockband on Nein! Nein! Nein! looking forward to a Saturday afternoon of enjoyable entertainment and great music. The game insisted that I upgrade my PS3 firmware to the new 3.00 release. OK, no problem. I’ve done this before. Everything seems OK.
Game starts up and I plug in the drum controller. CRASH! Power Cycle. Reboot.
Game starts up. All is well for a few minutes, then during the third song of the first chapter in story mode the game freezes up, Â the audio skips like a broken record and the controls are non responsive.
Power Cycle. Reboot. Now if I try to load a game it just hangs on a black screen. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zip. Total bogosity.
I’ve really enjoyed my PS3. It’s a first generation PS3 and has been rock solid since day one so maybe I should cut Sony a little slack but this is a major disappointment when tied to the release of such an anticipated title as The Beatles Rockband and pretty much blows my plans for the afternoon.
I hope they issue some kind of fix for this soon. A quick Google search reveals the epic scale of this fail.
UPDATE: In a less than helpful e-mail from Sony Playstation Customer Care representative Catrina G. pointed me to the playstation blog announcement of the problem stating that “The following Knowledge Center article may help resolve your problem”. No, it’s an announcement that acknowledges the issue but in no way resolves it. I remain rather upset that I’ve been “bricked” by this firmware upgrade.
UPDATE #2: My story got picked up by the Consumerist web page!
