A Round of Drinks from Around The World

My friend Carly occasionaly passes through Bangkok so he stashed a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label at the Big Mango bar down the street from Nana. Stephen and I stopped in after dinner and hung out for a while on Carly’s bottle. It was a nice low-key scene and the hostesses were friendly and helpful. It was really cool to have a drink from my friend’s bottle on a random Thursday in Bangkok while he was still in California.

Bangkok airport

Security at Bangkok airport confiscated my torch style cigar lighter. I guess only regular BIC’s are aloud on the plane, but it’s been in my bag since San Francisco and nobody else caught it. Score 1 for Bangkok Security Theater.

Street Food

After the presentation I hung out with Stephen from Massive Software. He took me out for a very nice Thai dinner then we wandered around Nana Plaza and Soi Cowbow. Above is a fine example of some of the street food in Thailand. Yummy crunch frogs, various insects and fried larvae.

Bangkok Presentation

I’m in Thailand less than 24 hours. The hotel is nice. We had some audio problems during the presentation but kept moving forward. Tomorrow I need to catch a flight to Mumbai.

Thai Democrazy

My friend Stephen sent me an interesting article about the meaning of Democracy in Thailand and opinions on the current civil unrest. It’s a good read and puts things in a certain perspective. Westerners should stop expecting Asian democracies to function the same as Western democracies, though from looking at what’s going on in the U.S.A these days I’m not so sure that deomcracy is really functioning in the West either… but hey, it’s the best we’ve got and in Asia they are also working with the best they’ve got.
